Mametz Week 3

The end of the third week marks the end of our time in the rehearsal room in Cardiff, from Monday we start on site in Usk!!! As scary a thought as this is, as it shows how little time we have, it will be extremely beneficial for us to actually see the site as a company. Working on a site specific piece in an empty rehearsal space has it's frustrations, not being able to see the production in context of location and logistics of audience makes it really hard to see what Matthew is aiming for.… Continue

Discovery...

This is a tale that has traversed generations and worlds to seek and unfold moments from long ago. A tale of discovery and true understanding of our purpose and connection to the earth. It is a frightening tale of loss and darkness. A tale of mystery and wonder shall be told in riddles and clues that will unfold. When all seems calm, the bitter…

Audition Notice: Oh What a Lovely War

O What A Lovely War is our next Everyman production after the Festival. This brilliant, potent, anti-war musical is a landmark in British theatre and we are fortunate enough to be allowed to perform it in November 2014 covering Armistice week (9 -16th)

Usually performed as a full musical, we are experimenting with it as a musical play with an on stage pianist/MD, guitarist and percussionist. Keeping to the original Joan Littlewood format of unisex Pierrots…

Writing The Opportunity of Efficiency

When The Opportunity of Efficiency was performed at the New National Theatre in Tokyo last year the play was written, in reality, by two people.

I was given the credit – my name on the posters outside the hulking theatre that sits near the busy Shinjuku area of Tokyo – but I was always keenly aware that the translator, Kaku Nagashima, had written the actual words spoken on stage.

Writing the play for a foreign national theatre, having it translated into Japanese and…

Gwanwyn Festival at the Sherman by Response Critic Leslie Herman Jones

Suitably staged (and not just for seniors, but for families and young people, too) at 2.30 on a Sunday afternoon, Stepping into Spring drew a good-sized, intergenerational crowd. It was a joyful experience, and I was moved to tears of joy more than once.

Dressed in his Sunday best shorts and t shirt and straight from the surf so he said, Age Cymru’s new Chief Executive, Ian Thomas, made the introductions to this Gwanwyn Festival event: the culmination of a…

Cardiff Streetside - happening next month

So in addition to the performing arts things I do (mainly in music, opera and theatre), I also have a track record of working with an artist called Micah Purnell, in Manchester and now in Cardiff. He's a visual artist; specifically a street artist; specifically a flyposter artist. I was a fan before I helped him with producing his work and now I'm glad to be able to say I support him.

SAVE THE DATE - Thursday 10 July, 6pm-8pm

In the first few weeks…
